I love diners. They are so quintessentially “Northeast”. As in the rest of NJ, there’s no shortage of diners to choose from in this area! I’ve already tried the East Side Diner and Broadway Diner a few times here in Red Bank, but I’m slowly exploring other diners in Monmouth County as well.
The other day my honey and I wanted to have lunch somewhere. We were on Rt. 35 in Eatontown heading towards Red Bank, I suggested the Americana since we had never been there before.
I mean c’mon look at it! Lots of chrome and neon goodness! Who can resist!?
Since we’re both basically on a diet, we opted for salad. He had the Grilled Chicken Caesar while I had the Arugula Salad with Grilled Chicken, Tomatoes, and Mushrooms. Some diners try so hard at making a good salad, but fail (Hello Broadway!). However, the Americana does a satisfactory job. Good sized, plenty of dressing on the side, and they don’t make you wait forever for it. I mean it’s ONLY a salad!
This leads me to believe that if their salads are really good, I’m sure the rest of their food is great as well. I will definitely be going back to find out in the future.
Please comment if you have been there and tell me about your experience.

Oh marilyn – try MASTORIS DINER in Bordentown NJ – featured on The Food Channel a number of times – it’s THE BIGGEST DINER in The U.S.A. !
Just found your blog, hence why I am commenting on 7 month old posts! I’m still exploring diners myself in Monmouth County and found Seaport Diner in Keyport. It’s a tiny little diner but it has great food.
Thanks for the head’s up on the Seaport Diner! Have you tried Adelphi Diner in Hazlet yet? If not, check it out. It’s nice and big and the food was pretty good. Our service could have been better, but hey it’s a diner so service is supposed to be a little off. Heh.
We have yet to do a thorough investigation of diners in the area, however I must say we did NOT like the Blue Swan in Ocean at all. I’d recommend not going there.
Hey Marilyn,
I have tried Adelphi or whatever it’s called now. Pretty good, but didn’t feel like a diner to me. Thanks for the heads up on Blue Swan! I saw a diner on 34 in Matawan or Aberdeen, can’t remember the name but wondering about it. Heard the Middletown diner on 35 is not so good.
