We went to Kyoto Sushi & Hibachi tonight in the Atlantic Highlands. It’s on Rt. 36 in the Navesink strip mall. It was pretty good.
We both had miso soup and avocado salads to start, his with shrimp. We then shared a sushi and sashimi platter for two. It included 10 pieces of sushi, 10 pieces of sashimi, dragon roll, and spicy tuna roll. No complaints really. The wasabi was quite potent. It certainly cleared my sinuses.
We also enjoyed tempura green tea ice cream and a mochi ice cream sampler – vanilla, green tea, and mango. Yummy.
We still prefer Ichiban in Ocean over all the places we’ve tried so far. Takara in Ocean and Sawa in Eatontown tied for a close second.

Believe it or not, some of the best Sushi we’ve had locally was at Elements Lounge in Sea Bright! Haven’t tried Ichiban yet, but now that the “summer folk” will be gone, maybe we’ll head down that way.
Really? I would have never guessed that. I swear, we are on the quest to try every sushi restaurant in Monmouth County! We’re getting close!
So we might have to try that some time. We attempted Yumi in Sea Bright one Friday evening, but the wait was about an hour, so we went elsewhere. I’d still like to try Yumi. Have you tried it, Donna?
Thanks for commenting!
I’ve been to Yumi a few times. My husband really likes it, and I think it’s good, but wouldn’t rate it “best”. It should be easier to get into after this weekend, or try a weekday night. Haven’t yet tried The Palm (vietnamese/french) in Sea Bright.

Yeah, I’m looking forward to the summer crowds dying down a bit.
I read some reviews on Chowhound about The Palm which were less than stellar. That doesn’t necessarily deter me from trying a place, but so far I have agreed with most of the reviews there. But, hey, if you’re planning on going sometime, let me know how it was.
Mt. Fuji in Shrewsbury is good, but I am partial to RED’s white tuna. It’s orgasmically good.
We didn’t necessarily dislike Fuji, but I guess it didn’t stand out enough to make us go back. Did you go recently? Perhaps we can give it another shot.
We have not gone to RED yet. But we have tried Danny’s sushi and that is not bad at all. So many sushi options is not a bad thing in my eyes.
We recently visited The Palm in Sea Bright-also not deterred by other reviews. We all enjoyed our evening there ordering four appetizers and three main dishes – we were delighted with the flavors and freshness of the ingredients in each. The appetizers from the Shaken Beef with the tenderest filet mignon to the Diver scallops-large,tender and succulent as well as the deserts-we had both and they are not to be missed-were absolutely wonderful, fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The service was attentive and more than friendly. We are planning to visit again soon.
Must try Kanji in tinton falls. BYOB sushi, & hibachi. Reasonable prices, excellent sushi & menu.(& I am a tough critic.) On Shrewsbury Ave. in Work out World shopping center. Great atmosphere.
