Remember that song “Life In A Northern Town”? Well, this is Life In a Trendy Town!
Yes, yes I’m a tad bit snarky.
Anyways, this blog will not be about blues music in Red Bank, New Jersey. I’m sorry if that is what you were looking for.
My name is Marilyn and I lived in Red Bank with my fiance and cat for 18 months. In October 2007 we moved to just off Exit 117A (read my new blog). I still post here from time to time. Entries may not always be about Red Bank proper — in fact, anything Monmouth County is fair game really — but I do try to keep it relevant to the general area.
I moved to Monmouth County from Philadelphia and it’s taken some getting used to. Don’t get me wrong, Red Bank is a nice town and this area is fine, but I miss living in an urban area. There’s definitely some nice shops, good restaurants, galleries, theater, coffee houses, nice river parks, and a Wawa. The close proximity to the shore and NYC make it an ideal location to live. However, because of that, it’s rather expensive and trendy. I know gentrification happens everywhere, but this town takes the cake! The sheer amount of Hummers I see on a daily basis make my head spin! Heh.
I’m only marginally interested in the local politics, so don’t expect to hear me sound off on any of that. I’ll leave that up to Red Bank Green.
I’m just your average Internet geek girl who enjoys having a pulpit to talk about crap.

Hey. Thanks for dropping by the willisbros site. I’ve been meaning to do a little Red Bank blogroll on my site and will add your URL when I get that going. Thanks again.
Jim Willis
Thanks Jim! We should create a Red Bank Bloggers Meetup! What do ya say?
If only I’d come upon this blog earlier. I, too, am an (almosy) 30 year-old engaged Philly girl now living in Red Bank. I have many of the same sentiments. Red Bank’s not bad…for Jersey
Hi Brenna! How coincidental! Where did you used to live in Philly?
As of next week I won’t be living in Red Bank anymore – if you saw some of my recent posts. It’s not that I don’t like the town. There’s a lot to like actually. I just don’t like the apartment we’re in. It’s an overpriced dump!
I looked at a few places before I looked in other towns. I would have liked to stay in Red Bank. But alas I found a really nice place in Matawan.
Monmouth County is quite nice and I’m surprised I adjusted to living here pretty easily. Some things I don’t think I will ever truly “get”, but I don’t feel as “lost” as I used to. I still miss Philly, though. Luckily I go back once a month (for a DJ gig) to get my fix.
If you like good Italian. You should try Osteria Dante on Broad St. It blows away any other Italian place in town.
Plus, it is BYOB. Try one of the specials. They are sure to deilght.
Take Care.
Brian
Hi Brian,
We never got to check out Osteria Dante while we were in town. Not sure if/when we’ll be back in town to dine, but we’ll keep that under consideration.
We enjoy Italian, but not quite like we enjoy Japanese. Which we do on a regular basis.
BYOB is always good, though. I love me some riesling!
